He floated past other clouds who let their water fall. Plip, plop, plop! “How silly,” Puk thought. “They’re giving it all away.”

Soon, Puk drifted over a land that was dry and dusty. Below, a little flower drooped its head, looking very thirsty.

Puk floated closer. He had never seen something so sad. He felt a little wobble inside.

A gift? Puk looked at his water, then at the flower. He decided to try. He let go of one tiny drop. Plip!

Then he let go of another, and another! Soon, a gentle shower was falling from the little cloud. Plip, plop, plip, plop!

The little flower drank up the rain. Slowly, it lifted its head. Its petals opened wide, and it smiled the biggest, brightest smile Puk had ever seen.

Puk felt lighter than air. Giving his water away didn’t make him empty. It made him feel full of happiness! He finally knew why clouds rain.
